The 2025 Rallye du Maroc once again stands out as one of the key events on the international rally-raid calendar. A true dress rehearsal before the Dakar, it draws the world’s top teams and most seasoned riders. This demanding race combines navigation, endurance, and mechanical adaptability in extreme conditions — heat, sand, rough tracks, and endless dunes.

For RAW Motorsports, a team dedicated to the preparation and development of enduro and rally motorcycles, this challenge represents far more than simple participation — it’s both a technical and human mission. The goal is clear: to prove that an affordable, well-prepared, and reliable motorcycle can take on the harshest terrain.

The choice of the KOVE 450 RALLY 2025 came naturally. After turning heads at the Dakar, the Chinese manufacturer KOVE has now established itself as a credible alternative to the rally giants.

Its strengths? A competitive purchase price, simple and proven mechanics, and a fully rally-ready platform featuring triple fuel tanks, an easily adaptable navigation tower, rally-specific ergonomics, and a well-balanced chassis.

It’s a solid, modern, and accessible base, ideal for a “client” or privateer project aiming to compete in an international rally without breaking the budget.

Engine preparation: unleash the full potential of the KOVE 450 Rally

Even though the KOVE 450 RALLY is ready to ride straight out of the crate, a meticulous preparation can turn this already capable bike into a true race-ready machine.

RAW Motorsports has focused its efforts on three key areas: intake, exhaust, and electronics.

The first step: the airbox. On a bike built to cover hundreds of kilometers through sand and dust, the airflow must be both optimized and perfectly filtered.

The team reworked the internal design to maximize intake flow while ensuring reliable filtration.

The result: a more responsive engine, stronger torque delivery, and better heat tolerance.

With this airbox, the TWIN AIR filter for the KOVE 450 RALLY is fully compatible with its TWIN AIR protective cover, providing optimal filtration and improved airflow.

2. Exhaust Upgrade

On the exhaust side, the choice fell on a full HGS system, renowned for its build quality and performance.

The benefits are immediate: sharper throttle response, weight reduction, and a racing-inspired sound without excess. The system perfectly complements the character of the 450cc single-cylinder engine while meeting rally noise regulations.

Fitting an ARROW exhaust is also a viable option, delivering excellent performance at a more affordable price. However, it should be paired with an Enduro-type ECU, not a Rally ECU, as the latter is not compatible with the ARROW silencer.

3. TRC Racing ECU Mapping

Finally, the finishing touch comes from the electronics: a Rally-prepped ECU by TRC Racing, developed specifically for the KOVE engine.

This remapping optimizes fuel injection and ignition timing to adapt to the extreme conditions of rally racing — altitude, heat, and variable fuel quality.

The result is a smoother, more flexible engine with improved throttle response and fuel efficiency, all while remaining perfectly reliable over long distances.

An Enduro version is also available, offering greater low-end smoothness when paired with the ARROW exhaust.

A rally bike is nothing without a flawless chassis.

The KOVE 450 RALLY 2025 was entrusted to PLS Suspensions, a specialist based in Barentin (France), for a complete setup of both the fork and shock absorber.

The stock SHOWA Ø49 mm components already provide a solid foundation, but precise work on hydraulics and spring rates allowed the team to tailor the bike to the rider’s weight, style, and the demanding conditions of the Rallye du Maroc.

The goal: to maintain comfort on long, fast stages while ensuring exceptional precision in technical and rough sections.

Tires and Mousse Setup

Tires play a crucial role in the chassis behavior. We selected the Metzeler MC360 Mid-Hard, offering an excellent balance between performance and durability.

In rally-raid, a tire set must withstand at least 800 km, the typical length of the longest stages.

Our bikes now run rally-specific mousse inserts instead of tubes — with a MEFO MOM18-4 at the rear, ensuring outstanding reliability and consistency over time.

Braking System and Comfort

The KOVE 450 RALLY 2025 comes standard with ABS, useful for leisure riding but less suited to competition, where it adds weight and reduces braking feel.

That’s why we completely removed the ABS system on our race bikes — replacing the brake lines and deleting the ABS unit for a lighter, more direct setup.

Long rally days call for comfort. Foam grips are highly recommended — while they slightly reduce feedback, they eliminate vibrations and greatly improve endurance comfort.

To complete the cockpit, we chose the MX Seat Nubuck seat cover, providing a stable, non-slip feel and optimal comfort for long stages.

Electrical Harness and Lighting

The stock wiring harness includes all the elements required for road homologation — turn signals, ABS, dashboard, etc.

In rally competition, these are unnecessary and can be cleanly removed thanks to the Factory harness, which simplifies and lightens the entire installation.

While not mandatory, this harness eliminates superfluous connections, ensuring a cleaner, more reliable electrical system.

Additionally, since rally regulations require dual rear lights, we installed the Factory fender kit with integrated lights, specifically designed for the KOVE 450 RALLY.

Protection and Components

RAW Motorsports also paid particular attention to protection components.

The carbon skid plate was retained for its excellent weight-to-strength ratio, while two backup options are ready to go:

  • An AXP high-density polyethylene skid plate,

  • And a Cross PRO reinforced aluminum skid plate.

This dual-setup approach allows the team to adapt quickly to terrain conditions or perform emergency repairs at the bivouac.

Navigation Equipment and Rally Compliance

Taking part in an international rally such as the Rallye du Maroc requires strict compliance with a precise technical rulebook.

The original navigation tower of the KOVE Rally has been replaced with a steel navigation tower (also available in a carbon version), specifically configured to accommodate the mandatory rally equipment:

  • ERTF: Unik4 racing GPS tablet and Iritrack unit for official tracking.

  • Marlink: satellite safety and communication system.

The Final Cost: A Race-Ready Motorcycle

This is one of the key strengths of the project: the performance-to-cost ratio.

While most rally bikes easily exceed €35,000, the KOVE 450 Rally project by RAW Motorsports remains surprisingly affordable.
